A lot of people had forgotten Tim Robbins played Merlin, the radar interceptor officer (RIO) or the back seater who was initially paired with Cougar. Upon Maverick's return to the carrier just before the massive dogfight with the Mig-28s, Merlin became his RIO. TOP GUN forever!!!

To Cassie and Carly: Clearly, you have not heard this very old classic of the classic science fiction story by H.G. Wells, who wrote it at the turn of the century and have not seen the classic 1953 movie. You should put the 1953 "War of the World" in your classic movie bucket list. There was an easter egg in the Spielberg version to that film. It was the long necked Martian probe that looked for Tom Cruise, Tim Robbins, and Dakota Fanning in the basement. You were wondering why the Martians invaded Earth. They wanted Earth's resource for themselves, which explains their motive to remove humans and transform the landscape/environment to their needs. Lastly, I noticed you were both puzzled what exactly killed the invaders. As the original story goes, the invaders had no immunity against Earth's pathogen. One thing that I did not like about Spielberg's "War of the World" was how the Alien invasion begins. It was drastically different from the classic version of "meteors" flying through space and crashing on Earth. When the rock cools down after a couple of days, it begins to unscrew, and the Martian tripod machine comes out and begins vaporizing people. As you saw the 2005 version , the aliens created an ominous lightning storm, which transported or zapped the invaders into the tripod machine. The machine immediately activated and came out of the ground destroying everything in its path. We just have to take the word of the surviving reporters that the invaders buried their machines a very long time ago for this planned invasion.

The scene with the regiment marching in parade through Boston affects me every time. It reminds me of the first time I dawned an Army uniform and marched in formation after I joined the Army. I couldn’t hold back tears then and still cant whenever I watch that scene.

Not so much about bomber pilots as it is about the crews of these great old flying fortresses..since they had gun emplacements topside, belly and tail..I’m not sure how big the crew was but you had two pilots…a navigator to place you over the bomb site..a bombadier to release the bombs..the gunner turrets..these guys were the air wing..I was infantry platoon sergeant..boots on the ground..and my Air Force buddy was in communication..actually, Gary was in the White House..and every time any President left to go somewhere, Gary and his team left 3-4 days early to set up secure communication lines..

I know you are so busy with all your other movies and other reactions, but I suggest you increase the number of episodes per season you react to, especially you’re now into the best seasons of the entire Next Generation series. How about 6 instead of 4 per season? I think many love seeing your reactions to TNG and would hate for you to miss out on great episodes.

There were two movies released somewhat close together about teams going on suicide missions. One was well-written, widely successful, and is seen as a great addition to the universe it is placed in. The other is titled the Suicide Squad. Rogue One added more depth to the events of A New Hope. It adds to the story of exactly why Leia was on her way to Obi-Wan with the plans.

I was surprised by how many really good actors that had parts in this..and for@“” I know, there may have been a real Memphis Belle..World War Two produced so many truly iconic moments..like in The Longest Day where the German officer gets up in the middle of the night and puts on his boots the wrong way..the left boot on his right foot..and vice versa..it really happened..ah..Cornelius Ryan..the crew on their last mission..Actor James Stewart..flew bombers as well…a lot of American actors were in the war…like Eddie Arnold..or Lee Marvin....

I was a huge War of the Worlds fan as a kid, loved the concept. 1953 George Pall version is the king of sci-fi. When this came out in 2005 I enjoyed it, but differently from the 1953 version.

Robbie should have died. It doesn't make sense that he survived, considering all of the mistakes he made.

Honestly, Robbie showing up at the end made me groan. It was cheesy and his character didn't earn that scene at all. I found him annoying and downright stupid most of the movie.

When Independence Day was announced I expected this level of intensity and was very disappointed it was another happy hero vehicle for a Hollywood schmuck… It had its great moments (Bill Pullman), and gave me a great Starfox level… but it was pretty corny
